ROBO-SORT| LUMINAIRE | KIITFEST-2017

TASK:

Team has to build an autonomous robot with a manual or autonomous robotic arm which will be a basic line follower i.e. will follow a white line and will also be able to recognise red, green and blue colours with RGB sensor. The bot needs to identify the colour of the cell on which the cube is placed, pick the cube with the help of the arm and then place the cube on the matching coloured cell on the other half of the arena. Team can use the best possible sorting algorithm for the event.

ARENA:
The game field consists of an arena having dimensions 5000 mm X 1400 mm (l x b).
It consists of the following: 1. The arena is composed of two halves each having 6 RGB coloured cells. 2. All the cells will be reachable by the bot with the help of white strips of width 50mm. 3. Each square cell has a side of 300mm. 4. There will be a start zone from where the bot will start the gameplay. 5. All the dimensions are clearly shown in fig. 1.

The figure 1 below shows the sample arena. In the actual arena the order of the RGB coloured cells will be changed from that shown in the figure and the arena may slightly differ. Note: The dimensions of the arena will be accurate to within 5% or 20 mm, whichever is less.

RGB coloured cell means that the cell would be red, green or blue in colour.

GAMEPLAY:
1. The bot needs to follow the white strip to reach RGB coloured cell, recognise the colour of the cell, and pick up the cube which will be of the same colour as that of the cell with the arm, take the cube and place it on the same coloured cell in the next half of the arena.
HINT: The teams are free to use any possible approach to solve the problem in the least time. NOTE: In case of a tie between two teams, a re-match would be done to decide the winner.

BOT SPECIFICATION:

1. The autonomous bot must fit into the box of dimension 220 mm X 220 mm X 220 mm (l x b x h). 2. Bot must have red, green and blue LEDs which will glow upon the detection of that particular colour. 3. Bot must have on-board power supply. 4. Bot must be started individually by only one switch. However a team may have on-board switch for restart. This switch has to be shown to the organizer before the run. 5. When using the electric power supply, the potential difference between any 2 points must not exceed 24 V at any point of time during the game. 6. The autonomous bot should not separate or split into two or more units. All bots/units which are touching each other or are in the starting point will be considered as one bot. 7. During the run, the autonomous bot must not damage the arena in any way. It is not allowed to leave anything behind or make any marks while traversing the arena. Any bot found damaging the arena will be immediately disqualified. The final decision is at the discretion of the organizers. 8. Machine cannot be constructed using readymade Lego kits or any readymade mechanism. But they can make use of readymade gear assemblies. Violating this clause will lead to disqualification of the team.

GAME RULES:

1. The teams will have to submit their bot before the start of the competition. Only those teams which submit their bots will be allowed to participate. The bot will be handed back to the team during the time of their run. They will be given 2 minutes for calibration. If any team is found to alter its code after depositing its bot except the initial start position which would be given on-spot by the organising team, then it will be immediately disqualified from the competition. They are however allowed to make any other hardware changes. 2. Only one autonomous bot per team is allowed. 3. When the autonomous bot starts, no team member is allowed to touch the bot or enter the arena except two team members to control the arm if wired. 4. At the start of the task, the bot will be placed in the starting zone. Only 1 team member is allowed to be near the arena while starting the bot. 5. Game will start only when organizers give the signal. 6. The starting procedure of the bot should be simple and should not involve giving bot any manual force or impulse in any direction. 7. A total of 3 minutes will be given for the gameplay.

RESTARTS:

1. The participants are allowed to take a maximum of 3 restarts of 1 minute each in the entire match. 2. If the bot takes a restart then it will have to start again from the start zone with the other circumstances untouched. 3. The timer will not be set back to zero. 4. During a restart, a contestant must not feed information about the arena to the bot. 5. However, contestants are allowed to adjust sensors (gain, position etc.) and make hardware changes.
6. The contestant must not alter the bot in any manner that reduces its weight (e.g. removal of a bulky sensor array or switching to lighter batteries to get better speed). 7. The organizers reserve the right to arbitrate in such circumstances.

GENERAL RULES:

1. Only 1 member of the team is allowed to handle the bot. 2. Participants are not allowed to keep anything inside the arena other than the bot. 3. Laptops/personal computers are not allowed near the arena. Other Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc. devices must be switched off. The organizers hold the right to check for these devices and their usage and disqualify the team. 4. The time measured by the organizers will be final and will be used for scoring the teams. 5. Time measured by any contestant by any other means is not acceptable for scoring. 6. In case of any disputes / discrepancies, the organizers deision will e final and inding. 7. The organizers reserve the rights to change any or all of the above rules as they deem fit. Change in rules, if any will be highlighted on the website and notified to the registered teams.

JUDGING:

1. 10 Points will be awarded for every cube picked by the bot from the cell. 2. 10 Points will be awarded for every cube delivered correctly with the matching colour of the cell.
NOTE: While the run if the bot drops the cube after picking the cube outside the current cell the delivering point of the cube to the other half would not be given to the teams.

SCORING:
1. A = 10 points * (Number of cubes picked during the run) 2. B = 10 points *(Number of cubes correctly placed on the matching colour cells during the run) 3. C = 180 - (The time taken by the bots while in the run in seconds) 4. Total Points = A + B + C

CONTROLS:

1. The bot must be completely autonomous except the robotic arm to pick up the cube which can be manual or autonomous. 2. The bot should not receive any kind of input from outside the arena.

TEAM SPECIFICATIONS:

A team may consist of a maximum of 5 participants. Students from different educational institutes can form a team.

ELIGIBILITY:

All students with a valid identity card of their respective educational institutes are eligible to participate.

CERTIFICATE POLICY:

The top three will get the Cash Prize and certificates.
